Skincare routines for the brides-to-be
You must have heard about the three-step skincare mantra – cleansing, toning and moisturizing. What most of you might not know is how to work with them and what are the steps to add to tackle specific skin problems or how to use it for specific skin types. Fret not. We are here to guide you.
1. Cleansing it well…!!!
Yes, you obviously wash your face first thing in the morning. But a good skincare routine is how and with what you clean your face at night just before you hit the bed…!!!
If you regularly wear makeup, it’s important you double cleanse every night. First, wash your face with an oil or balm-based cleanser to remove any dirt, grime and makeup. Next, use a light-gel based cleanser to deep cleanse the pores and prepare your skin for the rest of the skin routine.
NOTE: The reason why we recommend oil or balm-based cleanser even if you have oily skin is only as STEP 1 and on days you wear makeup to remove it.
In the mornings, use only a light cleanser or go back to the good old homemade cleansers such as milk+gram flour, bread+milk, or turmeric+honey. They are not only nourishing for your skin but also act as a natural exfoliator that deeply cleanses your face giving you soft, supple glowing skin.
2. Toning your skin
The importance of toner is often neglected. A good toner maintains a healthy glow and balances the complexion. Use a natural toner like rose water that works for all skin types.
Take few drops of rose water on a cotton ball and dap all over your face post-cleansing.
3. Exfoliate the skin
Given the level of pollution around us, it is best to exfoliate your skin at least twice a week to cleanse all the dirt, grime, dead skin cells that accumulate on your pores.
Twice a week before bedtime, gently massage your face with an exfoliant such as apricot or walnut scrub. You can also use any homemade scrub such as a mix of coconut oil and sugar granules. Within a few minutes, you will discover softer, fresher skin every time.
4. Moisturize your skin
One of the most important steps of any skincare routine is moisturizing – your secret weapon that hydrates your skin to keep glowing!!!
If you have oily skin, we suggest you use a non-comedogenic moisturizer that doesn’t block your skin pores. You can also try a light aloe vera serum instead. But make sure to moisturize the skin every night as that’s when our skin regenerates and revitalizes itself naturally.
5. Tea Tree oil
Dealing with super dry dehydrated skin? Add a natural oil to your daily nighttime routine. That’s right – oil. Because that’s exactly what skincare experts recommend. Why? Because it enters your skin pores and prevents those fine lines from appearing!!!
Love those hot showers in winters? Keep your skin warm as these hot showers can rob your skin’s natural oils. At such times, restore the hydration by applying a few drops of tea tree oil post-shower all over your body and face.
6. Use a hydrating serum
If you are constantly sitting in AC rooms or travelling a lot, then a hydrating serum with active ingredients such as Hyaluronic acid is a must-have.
As serums are usually compact, you can easily carry them around anywhere you go. Take the necessary amount and dab on your face 2-3 times a day. It adds nourishment to your moisturizer and refreshes your skin efficiently. If you have extra dry skin, use the serum and then the moisturizer to add an extra layer of hydration.
7. Overnight masks
If you don’t have time to pamper your skin daily, overnight masks are a great way to solve the problem. These masks work overnight and give you extra hydration, so you wake up feeling refreshed and glowing.
